Event sustainability is a principle, a philosophy in managing events that takes into consideration three important aspects: environmental protection, social growth and economic progress. We are looking at an enduring balance at risk approach to make sure that these three perspectives are integrated into the planning of events, into the execution of the plans along with the commitment to review and make sure that any negative impact socially, economically and environmentally are managed and reduced to its minimal level, to be able to leave a better impact, to leave a better operation and make a difference to the running of the events.
Where does the ISO 20121 come in, in the planning of the events?
So, the first item to look at, the ISO 20121 sets up a structure by which we look into the leadership element, the context that the stake holder serves; we are also likewise looking at the planning aspect that takes into consideration the risk based thinking, which is essential into managing any event. We are looking at plans, and we know that execution of plans will be then the matter of the heart of the success of the event; and if I can say the plan depends upon the risk and leadership that is sorted with it. So, this integration of leadership, risk based thinking, planning and effective execution of those plans necessitate a sound execution. Evidence based would lead to awareness or where we need improvement for the succeeding events because it’s not one of the events, we can always look into the contiguity, the repeating, and frequency of the managing of events.
What is the applicability of event sustainability?
You may say that it may root the importance to the international events because of the wide impact. However, there is also some relevance to small events players that will then support their context for corporate social responsibility. It is a matter of making sure that whenever we set a call for a company with stakeholders that we serve, we try to serve the footprint of environmental protection, social progress, and economic progress.
