Profile Summary

Nico has been involved in the Risk Management (Enterprise, Project and Operational), Project Management, Business Continuity and Corporate Governance environment for the past 36 years, within public and private sectors and on various levels of the organisations, representing Executive committees and having seats on Boards. Professionally, he is a certified Fellow Member (FIRMSA), the highest membership accolade within the Institute of Risk Managers of South Africa (IRMSA), validating the in-depth knowledge he has regarding the Risk Management Discipline as well as the diversity of the risk management methodologies he has been exposed to over the span of his career. Nico is also a Member (M.I.S) of the South African Institute of Security (SAIS) where he is serving as a Board Member and is charged with the responsibility of the 3 year strategy for the Institute, including the Business Continuity and Cyber Crime strategy Nico served in the South African Police Service (SAPS) for over 25 years, holding the rank of Brigadier when he resigned in 2007. In this role, he was the project lead in various projects, ranging from the formulation and implementation of the MISS document: 1996, to Business Continuity, starting with the Y2K (1999-2000) challenges, strike management, incidence response, crisis management, etc. Nico was an Executive within the Gautrain (Bombela Civil Joint Venture) environment responsible for the Risk within the project, between 2007 to 2011. He was part of the Project implementation team. Between the periods 2008 to 2009, Nico’s services and expertise were commercially shared between two Gautrain entities, one Project based and the other preparing for the Gautrain Operational side namely Bombela Operating Company (BOC). He created all the security based structures within these entities, which was based on the National Key Point (NKP) requirements, which included the MISS document, as he was a representative of the industry on the National Rail Crime Combatting Forum (NRCCF)   At BOC, Nico was an Executive (since 2009), responsible for Security, ERM and served on the Exco and reported to the BOC Board regarding these responsibilities, project management, ERM, BCM and Project management. Nico founded Crest Advisory Africa (Pty) Ltd and specialises in Risk Management, Internal Auditing, Business Continuity, and Compliance through various training strategies, Management Consulting and enabling Technologies. He is an expert in: Enterprise Risk Management (ISO 31001) Quality Management Systems (QMS)(ISO 9001)conducted his MBA Thesis on Service Quality Environmental Management Systems (EMS) (ISO 14001) Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS) (ISO 45001) Complaince Management (ISO 19600) Security Management (ISO 18788, and is the first company in Africa to present and quality on the SOMS (ISO 18788) Business Continuity Management Systems (BCMS) (ISO 22301) Anti Bribery Management Systems (ABMS), ISO 37001; IT Security Management Systems (ISO 27001) Medical Devices Quality Management System (MDQMS) (ISO 13485) Supply Chain Security Management Systems (SCSMS) (ISO 28000),  Asset Management Systems (ISO 55001) and Food Safety MAnagement Systems (ISO 22000) Nico has excellent risk, project management, corporate governance, strategy design, business continuity knowledge and experience, allowing him to implement required solutions through workshops, strategy sessions and plan development. Nico has worked across all levels within organisations (public and private), up to Executive level, with reporting responsibilities to the Board, demonstrating his technical and business acumen and well-rounded people skills.
