(2017-11-07) – PECB is pleased to announce that it is officially the first management system certification body in the North America region accredited against the ISO 37001.
From November 7th 2017, PECB’s scope of accreditation has been extended by International Accreditation Service (IAS) to include ISO 37001. Following a successful scope extension witness assessment performed by IAS, PECB has confirmed adding ISO 37001 to its scope of accreditation under the IAS Management System Certification Body accreditation program for ISO/IEC 17021 series of standards.
As part of the accreditation process, PECB has certified Legg Mason, one of the largest asset management companies, under ISO 37001- Anti-Bribery Management Systems – Requirements with Guidance for Use. Legg Mason is the first company to receive the accredited ISO 37001 certification.
“Becoming the first management system certification body accredited for ISO 37001 under ISO/IEC 17021 is another milestone achieved by PECB. This accreditation reflects our commitment to excellence, competence and approach to continually improve towards achieving our vision in becoming a global benchmark for the provision of professional certification services,” remarked the CEO of PECB, Eric Lachapelle.
“I consider myself privileged to have been part of PECB’s high level audit team for the first certification audit under ISO 37001. Conducting the first audit against this new standard was certainly a challenge but the professionalism and cooperation of Legg Mason greatly facilitated our task. PECB selected an experienced team for this first certification audit under the new ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery standard. I was privileged to be part of this audit team led by Eric Lachapelle,” said the Anti Bribery ISO 37001 Auditor, Serge Barbeau.
"My participation in the Legg Mason certification audit was a very rewarding professional experience. I had the privilege of working with a very competent audit team. In addition, I would like to highlight the excellent collaboration of Legg Mason," said the Anti Bribery ISO 37001 Auditor, Jean Bourdeau.
“Berkeley Research Group, LLC (BRG) is honored to be part of PECB’s first accredited ISO 37001 certification audit for a client, which reflects both BRG and PECB’s commitment in assisting organizations in evaluating and looking to continually improve their global compliance programs,” said Berkeley Research Group, LLC (BRG).
In order to achieve accreditation for ISO 37001, IAS conducted a conformity assessment evaluation to ensure the competency of PECB management system in accordance with ISO/IEC 17021-1 and ISO/IEC 17021-9. Once the management system was considered satisfactory, IAS then conducted a witness assessment of PECB’s certification and auditing process at PECB’s client site in Baltimore, MD. The IAS team comprised of two assessors trained in ISO/IEC 17021-1, 17021-9 and ISO 37001and were supported by a technical expert knowledgeable in the required anti-bribery discipline. The PECB team consisted of a lead auditor and 4 auditors experienced in anti-bribery and financial auditing practices. This rigorous process required technical and quality reviews of both PECB processes, auditors, decision-making and its overall certification program for anti-bribery management system.

IAS accredits testing and calibration laboratories, inspection agencies, management system certification bodies, personnel certification bodies, and product certification agencies. The accreditation process requires applicants to demonstrate compliance with IAS accreditation criteria and the relevant international standards such as ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/IEC 17020, ISO/IEC 17021 series, ISO/IEC 17024, and ISO/IEC 17065 respectively. IAS maintains signatory status with the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) for accreditation of testing, calibration, inspection programs and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) for product certification and management system programs in the disciplines of quality management systems (ISO 9001) and environmental management systems (ISO 14001). This means that endorsed certificates issued by IAS-accredited entities in these areas have global reach and acceptance. For more information, please visit
