ISO 14001 Lead Implementer

ISO 14001 Lead Implementer equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to implement, manage, and maintain an environmental management system (EMS) based on ISO 14001 within an organization.

Upon completion of the course, you can take the certification exam. If you pass successfully, you may apply for the “PECB Certified ISO 14001 Lead Implementer” credential. This internationally recognized certification validates your professional capabilities and competence in implementing an EMS in accordance with ISO 14001 requirements.

Learning Objectives 

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to: 

  1. Explain the fundamental concepts and principles of an environmental management system (EMS) based on ISO 14001  
  1. Interpret the ISO 14001 requirements for an EMS from the perspective of an implementer 
  1. Initiate and plan the implementation of an EMS based on ISO 14001, by utilizing PECB’s IMS2 Methodology and other best practices 
  1. Apply best practices to support the ongoing effectiveness and improvement of the EMS based on ISO 14001  
  1. Interpret the requirements for an ISO 14001 certification audit

  • Participants can contribute to the training course by partaking in exercises which are rolled out during each day of the training course. 
  • The quiz structure within the course closely mirrors that of the certification exam, ensuring participants are well-prepared for the exam.

Prerequisites  

To attend this training course, participants are required to have a basic knowledge of ISO management system standards, a general understanding of ISO 14001, and awareness of the management system implementation principles. 

Day 1: Introduction to ISO 14001 and initiation of an EMS implementation 

Day 2: Implementation plan of an EMS  

Day 3: Implementation of an EMS 

Day 4: EMS monitoring, continual improvement, and preparation for the certification audit  

Day 5: Certification exam

The “PECB ISO 14001 Lead Implementer” exam fully meets the PECB Examination and Certification Program (ECP) requirements. It covers the following competency domains: 

Domain 1: Fundamental principles and concepts of an environmental management system  

Domain 2: Initiation of the EMS implementation  

Domain 3: Planning of an EMS implementation based on ISO 14001  

Domain 4: Implementation of an EMS based on ISO 14001  

Domain 5: Monitoring and measurement of an EMS based on ISO 14001  

Domain 6: Continual improvement of an EMS based on ISO 14001  

Domain 7: Preparation for an EMS certification audit

After passing the exam, you can apply for one of the credentials in the table below. You will receive a certificate once you fulfill all the requirements of the selected credential.

The EMS implementation activities should follow best practices and include the following: 

  1. Drafting an EMS implementation plan 
  2. Initiating an EMS implementation project 
  3. Managing or leading an EMS implementation project 
  4. Implementing an EMS
  5. Managing documented information 
  6. Evaluating the EMS performance 
  7. Performing continual improvement activities

  • For candidates who complete a training, eLearning, or self-study course delivered by a PECB Partner, the training fee includes the first exam attempt, one free retake, the certification application fee, and the first year of the Annual Maintenance Fee (AMF). This cycle must be completed within 12 months from the course completion date for instructor-led training, or within 12 months from the purchase date for self-study and eLearning formats. 
  • Candidates will receive more than 400 pages of comprehensive training materials, including practical examples, exercises, and quizzes. 
  • An attestation of course completion worth 31 CPD (Continuing Professional Development) credits will be awarded to the candidate. 
  • If the initial exam is not passed, a free retake may be taken within 12 months of the course completion date. For self-study or eLearning courses, the 12-month period is calculated from the date of purchase.
