What Is the CMSA Training Course?

The CMSA training course is designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge required to become an expert in auditing management systems, in accordance with ISO/IEC 17021-1 requirements and other relevant best practices.

The training course includes a thorough elaboration of the fundamentals of MS auditing, including but not limited to standards, terminology, typical certification process, common MS requirements, the role of the certification body, and other key elements of the auditing process.

By the end of the training course, participants will be able to:

Additionally, all candidates are required to take the Auditor Behavior Exam to fulfill the IPC requirements for accreditation. This exam is designed to evaluate auditors’ responses to real-world scenarios, with a focus on ethical behavior, objectivity, effective communication, and professional decision-making.

Certification Requirements

In order to get the CMSA certificate, the auditor should fulfill all the following requirements.

Education and Training

  • A minimum of secondary education (high school diploma or equivalent)
  • A Lead Auditor course or CMSA equivalent to 40 hours of training

Professional Experience

  • Work experience consisting of five years, including two years in the related field
  • MS experience consisting of at least two years in the implementation, operation, and/or auditing of management systems

Auditing Experience

  • Audit experience as a team member, team leader, or sole auditor on a minimum of four complete audits totaling at least 20 days, including preparation and reporting with no fewer than eight days conducted on-site
  • Auditing experience obtained within the three-year period prior to certification

Exam and Auditor Behavior Exam

  • Successful completion of the CMSA examination and the Auditor Behavior Examination, demonstrating knowledge of auditing principles, risk-based thinking, and relevant ISO standards

Ethics and Professional Conduct

  • Demonstration of personal behaviors necessary for effective auditing in accordance with clause 7.2.2 of ISO 19011:2018 and Annex D of ISO 17021-1:2015
  • Evidence of the competence and knowledge necessary to conduct an effective audit in accordance with clause 7.2.3.2 of ISO 19011:2018
  • Adherence to PECB’s Code of Ethics

Application and Fees

  • Submission of an application for certification
  • Payment of applicable certification and exam fees

General Information

  • Certification and examination fees are included in the price of the training course.
  • Participants will receive comprehensive training course materials exceeding 400 pages of explanatory content, examples, best practices, exercises, and quizzes.
  • Participants who complete the full training course will be issued an Attestation of Course Completion worth 21 continuing professional development (CDP) credits.
  • If a candidate does not pass the exam, they can retake it once at no additional cost within 12 months of the initial attempt.
